Findings from online ad network Chitika confirm it’s anything but lonely at the top. According to the study, the top listing in Google’s organic search results receives 33 percent of the traffic, compared to 18 percent for the second position, and the traffic only degrades from there:

While being the number one result on a Google search results page is obviously important, these numbers show just how big of an advantage websites of this type have over any competitors listed below them.

It’ll also come as no surprise that the findings also showed a significant drop in traffic from Page 1 to Page 2 results. Page 1 results garnered 92 percent of all traffic from the average search, with traffic dropping off by 95 percent for Page 2.

And whether you’re on Page 1 or Page 4, Chitika reports the top position consistently sees more traffic than others on the page. On Pages 2, 3 and 4, traffic dropped by 27 percent, 11.3 percent and 5.4 percent respectively from the first position to second position.

For this study, Chitika examined tens of millions of online ad impressions where the user was referred to the page via a Google search. Chitika says that from the referring Google URL, the study was able to extract the position the page was on within the prior search results page.

Is Irish Film onto Something New?

What are film festivals for? Maybe, it’s not a question worth asking. For most of the year we whine about folks not turning out for “serious” cinema. But crowds still flock to the Cork Film Festival, The Galway Film Fleadh and, of course, The Jameson Dublin Film Festival (JDIFF). One purpose is to offer platforms for the upcoming event movies and to allow celebrities some elbow room.

Perhaps Fingal Film Festival based in the Fingal area of north Co Dublin, Ireland, offers something a little different.

Fingal Film Festival is a platform for emerging Independent film makers both nationally and internationally. This is a festival that will give access to some of the leading names in the industry, enabling young emerging actors to gain knowledge from their many years of experience.

Is Ireland on Your List?

“There are no strangers here, Only friends you have not yet met” WB Yeats.

William Butler Yeats, the renowned Irish poet was born in Dublin and shortly afterwards his family moved back to Merville, Sligo where young poet came to think of the area as his childhood and spiritual home.

And where is the wonder in that. Sligo has a spectacular landscape and a rich musical heritage and it is this combination that Mai Hernon (McEvilly) brings to you with her new business Secret Ireland Tours LLC.

Mai is better known as a traditional Irish singer and has toured the world. Born in the heart of Coleman County, Gurteen, Co Sligo she now lives in the USA and still holds a deep love for her native county Sligo.

She agrees with Yeats, that there are no strangers in Sligo but only friends that you have not yet met and she has created a business around that belief.

“The idea came to me to set up this business, because people were asking me about my home and telling me that they would love to come with me to Ireland. They were asking if I would consider setting up a tour and bringing them” says Mai, who is kept busy withCeltic Font and Beeswing.

Then she goes on to tell us a little more about her ambition.

“At the same time, I was listening to some of my friends who are at home in Sligo. They would explain how times are hard for them. Some of these people own businesses such as Bed and Breakfasts, Restaurants and Bus Hiring Companies. Other are writers, poets, and musicians”

Mai then realized that she could bring her friends and fans to Ireland and because it would be a small group it would be more relaxed, flexible and intimate. She would introduce everyone to the local people and  offer a close-up view of life in Sligo.

“You will get to see some parts of the country that the big tour groups do not even know about. You will have the best of entertainment every night with musicians, writers, poets and storytellers. You will experience it all” says an excited Mai whose son Séamus is also in partnership with her in this venture.

Sligo is filled with over 5,000 archaeological sites including the massive megalithic grave complex at Carrowkeel. Many of the walking routes arranged by SIT LLC incorporates these sites of archaeological and historical significance. The restaurants offer an extensive range of local seafood as well as speciality dishes accompanied by refreshing ales and fine wines. Irish IT Volunteers Give Back by Helping Charities

Bill Liao, now living in Co. Cork, Ireland is a co-founder of CoderDojo, a non-profit organization that teaches children how to code. It aims to teach children creative problem-solving skills and practical creative skills and was launched in Ireland in mid 2011. Bill Liao and CoderDojo co-founder James Whelton also hope to provide an outlet for children who know how to code to meet other children with similar interests and work on projects in an environment with their peers, similar to a co-working space but less formal.

Bill is a regular attendee at the TED conferences and also the World Economic Forum New Champions conference. Among his philanthropic endeavors is his participation as an investor and volunteer in The Hunger Project in Uganda, New York and Mexico.

And Bill has recently become Charity Ambassador for iDonate.
